“The sky is falling!” “It's all bad!” “We don’t know where to start!” “We can't ever fix all this!”
When you're feeling overwhelmed by all the things you could or should be working on, it’s difficult to know where to start. It’s hard to keep focused. It’s tempting to work on too many things and get nothing done. Or worse, work on nothing because you're frozen.
The best way to overcome this “chicken little” syndrome is to bring your focus way down, narrowing it to the most pressing issue in the present. Don’t look at the sky; look at the issue right in front of you. What would it take to make a small step of progress on that problem? Take that small step, which will lead to the next step, which leads to the next. Soon, you make progress and feel empowered and have a sense of success.
Of course, it helps to have a plan. To do that, you need to understand the factors that are contributing and where the improvements might lie. It helps to have an expert who can look at the list of issues, give you perspective, and lay out a plan. If your sky is falling, contact us. We can help you.
